Torque sensor

A torque sensor measures the force applied by the rider to the pedals. It provides feedback to the electric motor so that it can adjust the level of assistance to the rider’s effort. Torque sensors are considered more advanced than cadence sensors because they provide a more natural riding feel, with power assistance that feels more like traditional cycling. With torque sensors, the motor power is proportional to the rider’s effort. The harder the rider pedals, the more assistance the motor provides. This means torque sensors are ideal for riders who want to maintain a consistent level of power throughout the ride, regardless of terrain or incline.

Why torque sensor?

More natural riding experience: Torque sensors provide electric assistance that is proportional to the rider’s effort, making it feel more like traditional cycling. With cadence sensors, motor power is based solely on pedaling speed, which can feel less natural.

Better battery efficiency: Torque sensors can help extend battery life by only providing assistance when needed. With cadence sensors, the motor can continue to provide assistance even when the rider is not applying much force, which can drain the battery faster.

Easier starting from a standstill: Torque sensors can provide instant assistance when starting from a standstill, making it easier to get going. Cadence sensors can cause a delay in assist when starting from a stop.

Safer and more stable ride: Torque sensors can provide a safer and more stable ride by adjusting the electric assist based on the rider’s effort. This allows the rider to maintain better control of their bike, especially at higher speeds or on rough terrain.
